What's it like to be a student volunteer at the Twin lights? pretty awesome!

Hello! My name is Max Caiola, a senior at Shore Regional High School in West Long

Branch. I want to share my passion for history and the amazing experiences

I’ve had and will continue to have volunteering at the Twin Lights Historic Site. History has always held a special place in my heart, and this journey has allowed me to not only learn more about the past within my community but also connect with people from all walks of life. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been captivated by the courage of historical figures, and the events that shaped our world. As I

grew older, this fascination only intensified, leading me to explore history beyond the confines of

the classroom. I knew I wanted to do something that combined my love for history with my

desire to make a meaningful impact. That's where the Twin Lights Historic Site came into the

picture. Sitting atop the stunning Navesink Highlands in New Jersey, the Twin Lights have

witnessed centuries of history unfold. From maritime adventures to technological progress, the

site is a living testament to our past and a reminder of what we can achieve in the future.

Volunteering at the Twin Lights became a no-brainer for me. It was a chance to not only indulge

in history but also contribute to its preservation and share its importance with others. I believe

that by being a part of the Twin Lights community, I could learn, inspire curiosity, and foster

connections. During my time as a volunteer, I had the privilege of working at the site's charming

gift shop. As a cashier, my role was more than just processing transactions; it was about

engaging with visitors, hearing their stories, and sharing the excitement of history with them.

Every person who walked through the gift shop doors brought their unique perspective, and I

was fortunate enough to be a part of their journey. From tourists eager to understand the site's

significance to fellow history enthusiasts who couldn't get enough of the view from the North

Tower, I had the pleasure of meeting so many people with different stories. These interactions

have shown me that history isn't just a collection of facts, but a bridge that connects us in

unexpected ways. Reflecting on my time at the Twin Lights gift shop, I can only describe it as

incredible. As I continue on my journey as a history enthusiast and a proud volunteer, I'm excited

to see where my passion takes me next. The Twin Lights Historic Site will always hold a special

place in my heart as the backdrop to some of the most enlightening memories I've had and I can’t

wait to make more!
